Steve Perez, known professionally as DJ 1Life, was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, where he developed an early passion for music. Inspired by the iconic beats of "Sucker MC’s" by Run DMC, he fell in love with the art of DJing. At just 16, his father nurtured his budding talent by gifting him his first set of turntables and a mixer. Under the mentorship of DJ Double A, Steve spent countless hours mastering the craft, laying the foundation for his career as 1Life.
Blending genres like hip-hop, reggaeton, R&B, and Latin influences, DJ 1Life quickly gained recognition as a versatile and dynamic performer. His reputation grew as he headlined house parties and club events, becoming a household name in his community. After moving to Virginia in 1999, Steve expanded his focus to mixtape production, with standout releases like “Cam’Ron: The Purple Mixtape,” “Joe vs. Fab,” and the “Radio101” and “Hasta Bajo” series.
His talent caught the attention of industry leaders, earning him numerous mixtape award nominations, the 2001 Smirnoff Master of the Mix Contest title, and the prestigious Rookie of the Year Award. Known for electrifying live sets at iconic DC nightclubs such as Fur, LOVE, and Avenue, DJ 1Life captivates audiences with exclusive remixes and original tracks, ensuring every performance is unforgettable.

“I initially booked A2Z because of the good reviews and the variety of services they provided. We were able to get a good package that included DJ for our ceremony and reception, speakers, uplighting and a sparkler exit. They offer even more than that too. What I didn't know when I initially booked them was who our DJ would be. Our DJ ended up being Steve Perez, and he was perfect for our wedding! Steve and I had a couple of calls before our wedding day and went through every detail of the wedding. He was immediately easy-going and open to ideas and songs that he hadn't heard before. He offered me advice and got to know our personal tastes to know which direction to go with the reception. I made some last minute changes during the week of the wedding and he accommodated them without question. During the ceremony, we had an unexpected event that changed the whole flow/timeline. Steve adapted quickly and well. Steve recommended and made changes, communicated well with the team, me, and my party, and took a lot of the burden off of me so I could enjoy the day. They did a superb job communicating with us throughout the wedding process and from the very beginning, they were so kind and attentive. He never had the dance floor empty, all the guests raved about the music, and he always kept such a great communication with my fiancé and I.
